Blind Rivets
As general feature, both blind rivets and rivet nuts are non-removable fastening systems; to be placed they need an already-made hole (called pre-hole) in the sheet, and once installed, they create threads on parts that are not accessible from the rear.Their application does not damage or deform the surface-treated materials.They can be placed having access from one side only of the sheet, and for this reason they are called "blind".
BLIND RIVETS
The blind rivets allow the joining of parts made of unlike materials, normally sheet metal. But the parts to be joined can also be completely different from each other (i.e. sheet metal and plexiglas).
The blind rivets are made up of a mandrel and a body, which may be either of the same material (for example steel/steel) or of different materials (for example aluminum/steel).
To identify the correct blind rivet for your requirements, the following criteria must be taken into consideration:
1. Material of the mandrel and of the body
2. Head of the body (dome, countersunk, large)
3. Hole diameter where the blind rivet will be placed
4. Grip range
5. When you know above elements, you can decide the dimensions of the blind rivet dxL (diameter and length of the body). The empirical formula to calculate the necessary length is given by the diameter of the hole + the thickness to be tightened (d.hole +tt).
6. Mechanical characteristics required by the application, i.e. shear and tensile strengths.
You have to choose among standard or structural rivets according to the mechanical characteristics of your job.
7. Required performance: if rivets are placed to be in contact with fluids which do not have to pass through, watertight rivets are necessary, to resist vibrations increase shear and tensile strengths.
8. Aesthetic feature: if the rivets have to be applied on a colored surface, colored rivers are used, according to the RAL scale finishes.
The Rivit range of blind rivets include:
- ● standard rivets in cartridge
- ● structural blind rivets: such as Rivbu, Rivinox, Lockriv, Magnariv, Monriv
- ● Speedriv blind rivets
- ● rivets for special applications, such as: Multiriv for variable grip ranges; Gtreriv for solar photovoltaic systems; Fioriv for plasterboard, plastic and fibreglass, and Masriv for electronics.
- ● watertight sealed rivets
- ● plastic rivets to be used instead of the steel ones.
Rivit rivets are increasingly used in every area of sheet metal working: industrial, automotive, marine, construction, air conditioning, electronics, household appliances and metal coverings.Riveters to place rivets are available as:
- ● hand riveters: easy to use and ideal for non-continuous works;
- ● hydro pneumatic riveters: specifically for all professional and continuous installation works;
- ● battery riveters: as cordless they result to be much easier to handle and easily transportable.
